Wu Na is one of the most accomplished Guqin players. She began her training from the Guqin Masters
Zhao jiazhen and Li xiangting at the age of nine.
In 1997, she entered the famous Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing where she majored in guqin,
and in 2004, she became the first musician in China to receive a Masters degree in guqin performance.
Since 1992, she participated in major domestic Guqin competitions where she won first prizes (Gold Award).
In 2004 she published an education book “The first course of Guqin study”.
Ms. Wu’s dual education in both Chinese and Western music has inspired her to seek a new voice for the
guqin in contemporary music and art. She is an active crossover player and has performed and recorded with
jazz, rock, experimental avant-garde and music, modern dance and drama theaters.
Ms. Wu has made several performance tours in Asia and Europe. In 2008 Wu Na received a scholarship from
the Asian Cultural Council to live in New York for five months to research contemporary art and music in
America.
In 2010, Wu Na started a “WuNa version Guqin theater” with a monthly concert project at the “Fangjia hutong
n#46 art center” in Beijing where she presents the views of a new generation of Guqin players to the
community. To this day the project has held nine monthly concerts of different styles.
